Good to know for UPSC CDS
- A live photo is also taken during the form by webcam, or by phone through a QR code, and must match the uploaded photo.
- Name the files photo.jpg and signature.jpg. The tool does this for you.
Step by step
How to resize the UPSC CDS photo and signature
- 1
Pick the document
UPSC CDS is already selected. Choose photo or signature; the size and KB range from the UPSC CDS (II) 2026 notice and the upsconline portal limits are applied for you.
- 2
Add your picture
Choose the picture from your gallery or take a new one. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC pictures work.
- 3
Crop and adjust
Drag and zoom until the face fits the guide (or the signature fills the box). Fix the brightness or contrast if needed.
- 4
Make and download
Press Make. The file comes out inside the allowed KB range, and the tool checks the downloaded file itself: format, KB, pixels and print size for the UPSC CDS form.
Avoid mistakes
Why UPSC CDS photos get rejected
- The photo is outside 20 to 200 KB. Files that are too small are refused as well as files that are too big.
- The signature is outside 20 to 100 KB, or it is a photo of the whole page instead of a close crop of the signature.
- The face is too small, cut off at the top, or turned to one side.
- The background is dark, patterned or has shadows, or the photo is blurred, too dark or too bright.
- A selfie, a group photo, a photo of a printed photo, or an old photo was used.
- The file is a PNG, HEIC or PDF when the form wants JPG, or it was renamed instead of converted.
Tips for a clear photo and signature
- Recent colour photo on a plain white background, face covering at least 75% of it, eyes open, looking at the camera.
- Keep the face straight and fill about three quarters of the photo height, from the top of the hair to the chin. Eyes open, mouth closed, no caps or dark glasses.
- Sign on plain white paper with a black or dark blue pen, press firmly, and photograph it from straight above in daylight.
- Crop closely around the signature or thumb mark. White space wastes the size limit and makes the mark look small.
- Use the same photo everywhere in the UPSC CDS application and keep a few prints; the same photo is often needed at the exam centre.
