Overview
About Passport Size Photo Maker
A passport size photo in India is 35 mm wide and 45 mm tall, which is 3.5 x 4.5 cm or about 1.38 x 1.77 inches. This tool cuts your photo to exactly that shape, so you do not have to work out the ratio yourself or visit a studio for a simple form photo.
A face guide shows where the top of the head and the chin should go, so the face fills about three quarters of the height, which is what most Indian forms and studios aim for. You move and zoom the photo under the guide by dragging, pinching, scrolling or with the arrow keys, and what you see is exactly what is saved. The guide itself is not printed.
For online forms you get one JPG at 413 x 531 pixels, which is 35 x 45 mm at 300 DPI. If the form has a size limit such as 20 KB or 50 KB, pick it and the photo is kept just under it. For printing, the tool lays out 8 photos on 4x6 inch photo paper or 30 on an A4 sheet, with thin lines to cut along, as a PDF that prints at the exact size.
Everything runs in your browser. The photo of your face is never uploaded, which matters for a picture that ends up on ID cards and applications.

Good to know
- The background is not removed or changed. A plain white or light wall behind you gives the right result, a busy room does not.
- The tool does not check the photo against any official rules. Each form, exam or embassy sets its own, so read them first, especially for size in KB, pixels, background colour and whether glasses are allowed.
- For a new or renewed Indian passport, the photo is usually taken at the Passport Seva Kendra during your appointment. Check the current instructions on the official passport website before you print one for it.
- Some countries use other sizes, for example 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) for the US. This tool makes 35 x 45 mm only.
- Print quality depends on the photo. A dark or blurry phone photo stays dark or blurry when printed.
Fix a problem
Troubleshooting
The printed photos are not 35 x 45 mm
Print the PDF at Actual size or 100%. Fit to page, Shrink or borderless printing changes the size. Measure one photo with a ruler after printing.
There is white space or I cannot move the photo further
The photo always fills the frame, so it stops at the edge of the picture. Zoom in a little to get more room to move.
The face looks too small or too big
Zoom until the top of the hair touches the upper line and the chin touches the lower line.
It does not accept my iPhone photo
HEIC photos are not supported. On iPhone, share the photo and choose JPG or Most Compatible, or take a screenshot of it.
The form says the photo is too big
Choose the KB limit the form asks for (20, 50, 100 or 200 KB) before you download the single photo.
The photo looks dark
Move the Brightness slider to the right. Next time, take the photo facing a window in daylight.
The name does not fit
Long names are made smaller to fit the width. Use initials for the middle name if the text becomes too small.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the passport size photo size in India?
35 mm wide and 45 mm tall, which is 3.5 x 4.5 cm. In pixels it is 413 x 531 at 300 DPI. Always follow the size your form asks for if it gives a different one.
How do I make a passport size photo on my mobile?
Take a photo against a plain wall, open this page, choose the photo, fit the face between the guide lines and download it. It works in the phone's browser, with nothing to install.
How many passport size photos fit on a 4x6 print?
8 photos of 35 x 45 mm fit on a 4 x 6 inch print, 4 across and 2 down, with a small gap to cut. Download the 4x6 sheet and print it at any photo shop.
How many passport size photos fit on an A4 sheet?
30, in 5 columns and 6 rows. You can also choose fewer photos.
Can I add my name and date to the photo?
Yes. Tick Add name and date, type them, and they are printed in a white strip below the face. Some exam forms ask for this; others refuse it, so check yours.
How do I make a passport size photo under 20 KB or 50 KB?
Choose 20 KB or 50 KB under Single photo for online forms and press Download photo. The tool lowers the quality and, if needed, the pixel size until it fits.
What is the passport size photo size in pixels?
413 x 531 pixels at 300 DPI, the print resolution. Online forms often ask for a smaller size in pixels; the single photo download keeps the same 35:45 shape.
Does this tool remove or change the background?
No. It keeps the background you photographed. Stand in front of a plain white or light-coloured wall for a clean result.
Will it print at the right size?
Yes, if you print the PDF at Actual size or 100%. The PDF is made in exact millimetres, and the JPG files carry 300 DPI so photo apps know their size.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is cropped and saved inside your browser and never leaves your device.
Can I use it for an Indian passport application?
For a new or renewed Indian passport the photo is usually taken at the Passport Seva Kendra. Check the official instructions. For other forms, visas and ID cards that ask for 35 x 45 mm, this tool makes that size.
Can I make a 2x2 inch photo?
Not yet. This tool makes 35 x 45 mm only, which is the size used in India and many other countries.
Is it free?
Yes, free with no sign-up and no watermark.
